Please note that everything mentioned here is as per my experience in this yoga field and I have no intentions whatsoever to stop anyone from doing Yoga as their career. In fact, I would encourage you to take up yoga if it's your passion. This is just based on my experience in 'Mumbai' and 'few parts of Maharashtra' in India. Let's start!

1) Yoga Entrepreneurship is becoming widely popular not only in India but all over the world. While in some parts of the world people are willing to pay a good amount of money to yoga classes, there are some parts who not that willing. This also depends on people.
India in this case, has majority of low to middle income families which makes people more conservative while paying for themselves. This is a fact. With this comes the truth that you have to work hard to earn a good living if you are taking up Yoga entrepreneurship.
2) You earn maximum from personal classes and other places like hospitals, corporate, institutes, schools etc than your own studio! This is a fact, which comes with the truth that you have to literally make your own schedule and you will have to run from one place to another in order to take classes. Also if you have many clients in different locations then you will be super tired by the end of the day which will also lead to you missing your own practice. If you ask any yoga entrepreneur they have their maximum income from personal classes. Unless you are very popular teacher/ celebrity trainer/ socially very active.
3) Competition is very high like any other industry. There are many Yoga teachers if you go to see in India and you have to match with their prices if there are many in your area. I started with Rs.3000 per month and I had to eventually come down to Rs.1500 per month because no one was willing to pay so much to me and all my clients had a common answer that other Yoga teachers are taking less so we will switch! Other teachers are still charging Rs.300 to Rs.500 per month. But I have decided my lowest rate as I am Internationally certified and have a different teaching style.
4) Rates depend on area you are teaching in. If you go towards South Mumbai rates are between Rs.3000 to Rs.8000 per month whereas if you go towards Central Mumbai and extremes you will find rates between Rs.100 to Rs.800. It differs form city to city and area to area in the city! It's your choice if you want to travel to area where the rates are higher.
5) You have to have patience till you build a good client base. It happens for some yoga teachers that they earn good amount within few months while some take 3 to 5 years to get a good earning & client base which again depends on factors like your marketing, hard work, popularity, area etc.
For any business you start in your life you need to understand that hard work, patience & dedication is the key. The thing is you have to earn a lakh of rupees or more per month you have to put efforts. You might not earn so much from just your studio unless you are popular, you have to take or build other options.
There are many other factors you will experience once you get into this field. This is just of my experience.
It is a fact that we all are under survivor-ship bias and it's a harsh truth to accept!
My next blog is what is survivor-ship bias and how we fall in it's trap!
