Welcome to the Part 2 of Building career in Yoga from zero!
This particular blog will guide you in next steps to take after you are done with your yoga teacher training. Also, to those who are planning to do the certification and want to know the options they will have after the training is done.
From my experience, I did the the teacher training because I had developed keen interest in yoga and wanted to know more about it. I never really was planning on teaching but through the training I thought there's no harm in sharing my knowledge and therefore I started teaching.
So, you first need to decide, do you want to teach or you are doing it just for some other reasons.
After I was done with my first TTC I was honestly clue less. I was so confused and did not know what next because I never really planned anything at all on how to make career in yoga.
I was at home for about 15 days, just practicing and reading books on Yoga. I then realized during one of my practice sessions that I am just a beginner and just one TTC won't help me in teaching and I did not have enough knowledge even though I was eligible to teach! So, I went on for my 2nd TTC after which I was confident enough to teach and I possessed enough knowledge that I could share. This is when I started teaching.
Here are options/steps you can follow so you don't go clueless & unplanned like me!
1. Decide if you want to teach or know why are you opting for TTC.
2. Some institutes do have options for internships. For example : The Yoga institute, Mumbai
provides you with 3 months of internship which is optional. After completing the internship you can work in the institute or ask them to place you somewhere. (You need to ask the institutes about this)
3. Look for gyms & fitness studios in or around your area make a list, then visit & ask them if they need a yoga teacher and what are their requirements. If it fits your expectations, go for it!
4. There are many companies online that provide you with clients for private home yoga classes like Urban clap, Yoga Today India, Specially caring yoga center etc. They take little commission but you can charge a good amount & earn from such private classes.
5. Go Social. Create a YouTube channel and make videos, Posts pictures on Instagram and increase your followers so brands can approach you, write blogs and share your knowledge, create a Facebook page and keep posting.
6. If you have a garden near your house or a gym in your building just put up posters and start teaching in these areas. (starting from the place you live is always the best option)
7. Go for corporate yoga classes. Again there are startups that help you get corporate clients or simply approach your friends working in corporate and ask them to talk to their HR for arranging a yoga session in their office.
8. Other places you can teach is Schools, colleges, hospitals.
9. Once people know you exist! Arrange for workshops like kids, back bending, hip opening, summer camps, women's health etc.
10. Last but not the least, If you can afford then go and start your own yoga studio and collaborate with other yoga teachers!
Please remember-
1. It is easier said than done.
2. Know that things will take time and you will need years of patience in most of the cases as there are many yoga teachers and competition is very high.
3. Don't give up! Keep practicing..never compromise on your practice.
4. Everything will come on time you just have to keep practicing.
5. Be creative and work hard. Forget about money if you have just begun. Your experience will teach you better.
