In my previous blog, I described my weight loss journey. This blog I am writing on the diet I followed. You can follow the same or change as per your convenience.
I would not call it a “diet” as such but I chose to eat healthily. When I say “healthy food” the first thing that might come to your mind is a salad. I did have a salad as my side dish of course! because only salad was never enough for me. We must stick to our staple food instead of buying expensive vegetables and making exotic dishes and salads. I as an Indian had a habit of eating roti, rice, daal, lentils etc. I found out that roti/chapati has a lot of gluten and carbohydrates which can easily make you fat and so for 2 months I did not have chapati. Even if I had it was made with multigrain flour (aata). I followed this diet because this was something I could follow for the lifetime.
So, here’s what I ate and what I did not. First starting with what I ate, I started my day with green tea or lemon water or just hot water (depending on how much time do I have)
Breakfast: Fruit salad or any available seasonal fruits(2), Porridge/muesli or Boiled eggs (only white part)/omelette or poha/upma/sevaiya, boiled lentils, tea/coffee without sugar & milk.

Lunch: Any 1 dry sabzi(vegetable), Rajma/chole/matki or any pulses, Daal 1 medium bowl, rice (only handful), boiled vegetables, boiled/grilled or gravy chicken/ fish

Snacks: Green tea/organic tea without milk and sugar. Dry fruits handful- except kaju or dry chana, If craving sweet I had a small piece of jaggery or chikki. ( For one and half month I did not have snacks and only had green tea when I am feeling hungry at around 4pm)
Dinner: ( No eating after 9pm) Any soup, Daal & sabzi, boiled vegetables.
My dinner was always light and mainly had liquids that filled my stomach well. Here’s what I did not eat- No dairy products like cheese or butter, No sugar (I used honey or jaggery instead), No kaju, No chocolates (not even dark ones), no biscuits, No junk food at all (I chose healthy options like south indian food in case I had to eat out).
If feeling bloated or hungry after having meals I had green tea or two glasses of water. No eating heavy at night and exercise for 1 hour at least 4 to 5 times a week. walking wherever possible. when you start exercising your cravings will first increase and you might feel hungry often, but it’s just a mind trap! once you control, cravings reduce to a drastic level.
The important thing is the portion size. How many portions do you eat i.e. 1 bowl, medium bowl, etc. Drink a glass of water before having meals.
This is easy and you will do it if you really want the results. Take a cheat meal on Sunday.
The only mantra is “STAY CONSISTENT”.
In my next blog will post on things you need to know before starting your weight loss journey & some myths.
Thank you for reading!!
