My yoga journey


I thought it is very important to tell you all about my yoga journey till now before I proceed to tell you about the actual Yoga. Also, as you read my blogs, you will find it to be written in a Layman’s language for everyone to understand and also so you can read it as a story or a conversation.


Today I start writing because I realized a lot of things as I started teaching and meeting people and knowing their perception of what yoga is. People around me gave me some common answers like “I want to be fit”,”I want to be flexible”, “I want to lose weight” and soon I realized that the perception about yoga is different for most of them then what it actually should be.


So, to start with Yoga with Nikita. Let me tell you all about my journey and how it all started and where it all landed up.


When I started with my first yoga class back in 2012( I did not have any prior yoga experience before 2012) , the only thing in my mind was “weight loss” because back then I had been involved in a lot of junk food and had gained a lot of weight, plus I did not want to join the gym because I was too shy to and would think “what if people laugh at me there?” I don’t know why I did not think so for a yoga class as the class I went to had all ladies, the teacher was good and the ladies were just like me and did not judge me ( I don’t know, they never seemed so to me-maybe).


My sister had introduced me to this Yoga class and I went there for a year and I saw the difference in my body. I had lost a lot of weight and I was happy (however I did not realize its effects also on my mind, as I did not know what yoga is all about) and from there onwards I took yoga as an exercise and started following so. I developed a keen interest in Yoga and then I decided to take Yoga as my career option. Back then I was satisfied with whatever flexibility I had and thought that this is what I need to achieve and also did not know much asanas and other stuff about yoga. Now what?


Marketing was the need of the day and I had to know more about it to make my business a success (I was taking yoga as a business- I would do in the future). So, I completed my MBA in Marketing. I had completely lost my practice in 2017 because of my assignments etc. (I am making a reason, I was too lazy back then and I had again gained weight).So, I joined a corporate firm and worked for 6months, while I was working under such pressure I use to tell myself “I need yoga” and I just couldn’t resist to leave my job and join a Yoga teacher training course.


I did a 900hr course and then a 200hr course all in multi-style and in that time of teacher training obviously I got to know more on yoga and what it actually is. From then on I never took yoga as an exercise and realized I have a long long way to go in my practice and what I learned in my yoga class back then was not even 1% of what yoga is!


Ok, I know you all must be like…”So then what is yogaaaahhh according to you???”
